Carriage Shed
The carriage shed
is where the Carriage and Wagon (C&W) do most of their work
and houses the Society's collection of carriages. Within the carriage
shed there is a raised platform to enable visitors to view the
inside of some of the vehicles and see the progress being made
on some of them. To enable work to be done on the vehicles there
is also a fully equiped wood working shop, which acan mack most
things, including the new locomotive shed doors. Also being added
to the shed is a set of carriage lifting jacks, these were bought
from Swindon, this will enable C&W to remove bogies for overhaul
much easier.
Work to restore both carriages and wagons can involve the vehicle being completely stripped down to the frames and rebuilt. The 2 pictures show GWR SUper Saloons, Prince of Wales stripped down, and Queen Mary OK to use.
